Crisis Committee: BP Oil Spill

Welcome to the Crisis Committee at SCMUN 2020!

Background guides will be updated shortly.

In April 2010, the world was rocked by the worst oil spill in history. The spill was caused by an explosion on the Deepwater Horizon oil rig, which is located in the Gulf of Mexico off the coast of Louisiana. The explosion ended up resulting in 11 deaths and the subsequent release of millions of barrels of oil into the Gulf over a span of 87 days. This fast-paced committee will take place over the span of these 87 days, and must deal with the environmental, economic, and potentially political ramifications of this monumental explosion.
