Dear Delegates, Advisers, Parents, and Esteemed Guests,

My name is Zoie Petrakis, and I am honored to serve as Secretary-General for Southern California Model United Nations 2017. With a set of carefully chosen topics, an incredibly well-trained staff, and an attendance of over 300 delegates, SCMUN 2017 is on track to be the best SCMUN yet! SCMUN 2017 will take place from April 1-2, 2017 on the USC campus.

We are confident that every delegate will be able to participate in a committee that piques his or her interest. From traditional committees such as the Security Council to crisis committees such as the Pakistani Cabinet, SCMUN 2017 will offer delegates a diverse selection of 11 committees. Each delegate, regardless of prior experience, will have a chance to participate in an immersive weekend of debate that suits their skill level.

Additionally, SCMUN prides itself on providing an immersive and educational experience so that students will get a peek into the room where it happens and have a chance to simulate the art of the trade through intense debate and diplomacy. Between the international-relations focused activities outside of committee and the detailed feedback the staff provides, every delegate will grow as a future diplomat during their time at SCMUN!

Furthermore, for 2017, we have decided to improve our conference by branching out into high school and middle school committees. The high school committee sessions will take place on both days, while the middle school sessions will only run on Sunday, April 2.

Registration will open on October 1 and the early registration fee is $55 per delegate. This fee includes 12 hours of debate, guided tours of USC, and entrance to the delegate social. Financial aid is available for delegates that require it – we firmly believe that financial constraints should never prevent any student from having the opportunity to participate in MUN.

Please feel free to reach out to me or our Director-General, Vivek Ramachandran, (dg@scmun.org) if you have any questions about SCMUN 2017! We hope to see you in April!

Best Regards,

Zoie Petrakis
