Welcome to SCMUN 2020

March 28-29, 2020

Dear Delegates,

My name is Nandita Raghavan, and it is my distinct honor to serve as Secretary-General for SCMUN 2020. Now in our eighth year, Southern California Model United Nations is looking forward to continuing our legacy of lively and nuanced debate over the weekend of March 28-29, 2020 on the beautiful campus of the University of Southern California.

Serving as a forum in which in the past over 800 delegates have come together and debated real-world pressing issues, SCMUN this year will be filled with lively topics for debate, with unique committee offerings that will cater to both the interests and experience levels of delegates. Delegates will have the ability to choose from large General Assemblies, mid-sized Economic and Social Councils, more intimate crisis committees, and novice committees for beginners. These committees will range from the pressing issue of Brexit to debating issues regarding the economic security of Africa, and will challenge delegates to use their powers of creativity and critical thinking to resolve these issues.

Here at SCMUN, we believe in the power of providing an educational experience for our delegates rooted in diplomacy, research, and public speaking to empower our delegates to become more aware citizens of the world. Our secretariat, chairs, and crisis staff work tirelessly to provide detailed background guides, plan crisis arcs, and develop delegate materials that demonstrate the excellence we seek at SCMUN. From our background guides to closing ceremonies, SCMUN will ensure that delegates gain knowledge, skill, and grow their passion for debate.

Please reach out to us with any questions you may have, we hope to see you in March.

Fight on!

Secretary-General Nandita Raghavan
