Dear Delegates,

My name is Avi Mann and I feel very privileged and excited to serve as your Secretary-General for SCMUN 2024. I feel as though SCMUN represents a unique opportunity to engender intellectual growth in youth. This coming conference marks over a decade since our very first Southern California Model United Nations conference marking a consistent tradition of lively intellectual debate and collaborative camaraderie.

SCMUN 2024 will be held from Saturday, April 6, to Sunday, April 7, on the University of Southern California campus in Los Angeles. Our team looks forward to creating a purposeful and intellectually stimulating conference for our delegates who are committed global citizens seeking to create innovative solutions for current issues that are so pertinent in our world.

This year’s committees will explore a theme of reflection, through the General Assembly (GA), Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC), Specialized, and Novice committee formats. For some delegates, that will come via debating the agreement on the first-ever UN Strategic Plan for Forests in the United Nations Forum on Forests or in addressing how regulating activity in outer space relates to political stability in the Special Political and Decolonization Committee. For others, that may come via considering the promotion of public health in hopes of keeping the world healthy and serving the vulnerable in the World Health Organization Committee. Regardless, we hope that delegates walk away from this experience having learned something, not just about the world that they live in, but about themselves as global citizens.

On a final note of appreciation, SCMUN would not be possible without our Secretariat and staff who have volunteered their time to ensure that this conference not only runs as smoothly as possible, but also serves as a fun and valuable educational experience.

I look forward to meeting you all in April. Until then, please feel free to reach out if you have any questions or concerns and as always, fight on!

Avi Mann, Secretary-General
