Topic A: Promoting Climate Resilience in Agriculture-Dependent Communities

Rural populations reliant on agriculture remain among the most vulnerable to climate shocks, from droughts to floods. In many parts of the developing world, inadequate infrastructure, limited access to technology, and poor market integration exacerbate these vulnerabilities. For UN-Habitat, the challenge lies in linking climate adaptation to settlement planning—designing resilient housing, water management systems, and rural infrastructure that can sustain livelihoods even under changing weather patterns. This topic highlights the intersection of rural development and climate resilience, emphasizing the need to integrate agricultural communities into broader urban-rural development frameworks.

Topic B: Enhancing Public Transportation Systems in Urban Environments

Public transportation is a cornerstone of equitable and sustainable urban development, yet many cities face challenges ranging from overcrowding to insufficient infrastructure. In rapidly growing urban areas, especially in the Global South, transport systems have not kept pace with population growth, leading to congestion, pollution, and unequal access to opportunity. For UN-Habitat, the goal is not only to expand infrastructure but also to ensure accessibility, affordability, and sustainability. Delegates will need to consider how transportation can serve as a backbone of inclusive urban growth, connecting marginalized neighborhoods to economic and social opportunities.
