In recent decades, rising infrastructure expectations and requirements with rigid host contracts have discouraged cities worldwide from even submitting bids, raising questions about the economic sustainability of this historical and monumental event. The IOC faces the unique challenge of reforming its host selection and financial frameworks to ensure host cities do not suffer lingering financial doom. Delegates are challenged to determine how the IOC can incentivize the reuse of existing infrastructure, distribute broadcast and sponsorship revenues more equitably, and construct binding and lasting frameworks that shift a temporary sport-watching event into a viable and long term urban investment worth hosting The Olympic Games for.

It is no secret that the spotlight the Olympic Games brings goes beyond celebrating groundbreaking human feats. The Olympic Games also functions as an arena where global politics can pull the strings and strategically repair or worsen diplomatic ties. While the Olympic Charter asserts political neutrality and the historic concept of the Olympic Truce, the Games often become a battleground for boycotts, propaganda, and even state-sponsored doping scandals. When regional conflicts spiral out of control, it is the IOC’s job to mediate, balancing its commitment to equitable athlete participation and its duty to condemn human rights violations. This topic demands delegates to navigate upholding neutrality and avoid involving the neutral body with attempts from hostile actors to exploit the Games politically. Delegates will need to set clear, consistent frameworks in the face of non-compliant National Olympic Committees, athlete political speeches, and threats of state retaliation to refugee teams or those using neutral flags, all without compromising the integrity of the legendary Olympic Games.
